US Existing Home Sales Drop Sharply

(MENAFN) Existing home sales in the United States experienced a larger-than-anticipated decline in January, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

Seasonally adjusted figures revealed that sales of previously owned homes decreased by 8.4% month-on-month, totaling 3.91 million units, falling short of market expectations of 4.16 million.

In contrast, December 2025 saw a 4.4% rise in existing home sales, reaching 4.27 million transactions.

On an annual comparison, sales of existing homes also dropped by 4.4% in January, highlighting a slowdown in the housing market.

Meanwhile, the median price for homes in the US resale market climbed 0.9% year-over-year in January, reaching $396,800.
