Governor Joe Lombardo, City of Las Vegas Announce Historic Federal Land Sale to Support Up to 6,000 New Homes in Southern Nevada
NEVADA, September 2 - Largest BLM land sale in more than two decades will create housing, jobs, infrastructure, recreation, and economic opportunities
LAS VEGAS – Governor Joe Lombardo and the City of Las Vegas today announced the completion of a historic federal land sale for the Monument Hills master-planned community supporting up to 6,000 new homes and generating an estimated $3-4 billion in total economic value.
At the end of August 2026, Olympia Companies purchased the upper northwest Las Vegas property through the City of Las Vegas, immediately following the City's initial acquisition of the land from the Bureau of Land Management. Monument Hills will include housing across a range of market segments, from attainable housing to executive-level homes, while creating approximately 1,000 permanent jobs, significant construction employment, and new mixed-use and commercial opportunities.
Governor Lombardo played an active role in advocating for the sale and securing federal support for the project, including writing directly to U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to urge approval of the sale.
“This is exactly the kind of bold action Nevada needs to increase our housing supply and make housing more attainable for hardworking Nevada families,” said Governor Lombardo. “This historic conveyance will create thousands of new homes, generate billions of dollars in economic activity, support our military families, and build the infrastructure and communities Southern Nevadans need. My administration will continue working with our federal, state, and local partners to unlock more federal land for housing and increase supply across Nevada to help drive down costs for families.”
The City of Las Vegas also played a critical role in bringing the project to fruition, providing the leadership, vision, and collaboration necessary to secure the land and plan for a community that will deliver new housing, economic opportunity, infrastructure, and amenities for Southern Nevadans.

"These new homes will be the beginning of a beautiful new community complete with acres of sports fields, a community center, open spaces, trails and interpretive signs that acknowledge our local history. This community will provide wonderful access to those who want to be closer to our beautiful outdoor spaces.”
The community will include dedicated off-base housing opportunities for personnel serving at Creech Air Force Base and Nellis Air Force Base, helping meet the housing needs of Nevada’s military families. Plans also include new infrastructure, future school sites, parks, sports fields, trails, open space, and a community center.
The historic conveyance advances Governor Lombardo’s broader efforts to increase Nevada’s housing supply by unlocking more federal land for responsible development. As Nevada continues to grow, the Governor remains focused on working with federal and local partners to remove barriers to housing construction, expand housing options, and help drive down costs for Nevada families.
